Katie's story

Katie’s midwife referred her to us for some additional support. She was pregnant and alone. Her boyfriend wanted nothing to do with the baby and was encouraging her to have an abortion.

If it wasn’t for the Life house I would probs be in a B & B. I am so thankful there’s some where like this to help people. Living in the Life house has really helped me out, I had trouble with trying to get housing benefit as they said I wasn’t entitled to it, if it wasn’t for the support worker I wouldn’t have known what to do!

Ella's story

I decided to become a Peer Mentor after leaving a Life house where I was a tenant for over a year.

I felt I wanted to give something back to Life after all the help and support I had received whilst living there. My Support Worker told me about the Life Peer Mentoring scheme and I have now completed my training and received a certificate which I can add to my CV.

Janet's story

I moved in [to the Life House] April 2009 when I was 14 weeks pregnant. There were two other girls living here, both with young babies. This was good for me to learn about the day to day routine of looking after a baby. I moved in with not much knowledge on life skills. Such as cooking, cleaning, practical skills, health and safety, money and budgeting, health and pregnancy and parenting skills.

Cherry's story

I came to Life when 8 months pregnant. They helped me find out what benefits I was entitled to, how to budget my money and how to save. I learnt how to paint and decorate my room and how to cook with every day things in the cupboard. I still use these skills now after living on my own for a year. I have gained a NVQ Level 2 in hairdressing.

Hayley's story

Hello, my name is Hayley. Six months ago I was in a bad place in my life. I was a recovering drug addict and was working as a prostitute to fund my drug habit. I was also 4 months pregnant with twins and needed help.

Aislinn's story

My name is Aislinn. I’m 25 years old with an 18 month old son called Addison. We got referred to Life in 2011 when we became homeless after my relationship with Addison’s dad broke down.

Joe's story

“I didn’t sleep the night before, I just felt physically sick. I know I had no right to, it was her choice. Of the morning, I couldn’t even bring myself to have a shower, what was the point. I drove her to the appointment. I tried to talk in the car but my voice kept breaking, I couldn’t put into words what I was feeling, I do think would it have made a difference?…”
