Our network of supported housing helps women transform their lives.
Supported housing
Through a network of Life Houses, run in partnership with local authorities, we provide supported accommodation and access to our Life Skills programme.
Tenants typically stay in a Life House for up to two years before they move on to independent living. Tenants are encouraged to create their own strength-based support plans on entering the House to achieve their goals.
The majority of the Life Houses are shared accommodation with communal facilities. This helps to create a community of support among the tenants during their time in a Life House.
Benefits
Using a Trauma-Informed Approach and working together, we create a safe space to empower tenants to:
- Build confidence, self-esteem, and wellbeing.
- Be healthy and eat healthily for both parent and child.
- Attend education and training.
- Develop their parenting skills.
- Increase employability and future financial stability.
- Create lasting relationships with others.
- Participate in the local community.
- Enjoy life.
- To flourish!
Criteria
To qualify for a place in a Life House, tenants need to be all of the following:
- Pregnant, or female with a young child under five years old.
- Homeless, or at risk of homelessness.
- In need of support.
- Aged over 16 years.
Zoey’s story
Zoey came to live in one of Life’s Houses as she was fleeing domestic abuse … recently she told us that she graduated with a 2:1 from Bath Spa in Business and Management and is about to start her MA!
Moving on to a bright future
This is one of our ex-tenants, who moved out of a Life House into their own home a couple of months ago. Sarah, the tenant’s Support Worker, dropped them a foodbank parcel and had a cuppa and show round. Sarah said, “Such a lovely girl and really deserves this beautiful home positive outcome.”
Kirstie’s story
Kirstie gave birth to her baby girl in the Life House. She says, “Without the help from the ambulance crew, my Support Worker Anne and the girls in the House I couldn’t have done it. So thanks girls – it’s nice to know that we’re all there for each other – no matter what the situation!”
Since we started
Since starting in 1970, Life Housing has been a place of safety and refuge for 12,000+ mums and babies.
Mums and babies housed
We house mums and their babies who would otherwise be homeless, unsupported, or at risk. We can be a place of safety and sanctuary for them. Every month, we house approximately 220 mums and babies.
Mums and babies moving on
Whenever a mum and baby move out of our house to independent living, that's a success story. Every month, approximately 14 mums and babies move out of our houses.
Accreditation
We’re registered with the Housing Ombudsman service and are a Registered Provider of social housing (Registration number 4734).
I can't begin to express how grateful I am to you for giving me somewhere to safely bring my little boy into the world ... Life gave me somewhere I could be myself and grow as a person and a mother.
I was absolutely touched to meet the residents and staff.
Life is and will be one of the best things that has ever happened to my life. Because of Life, I have now realised I’m capable of not just being a great mum, but living the dreams and achieving the things I never thought I was good enough to try before.
It was particularly lovely to meet your clients and their children and to see what a difference is made to their lives.
The Life House makes you believe you can achieve anything and not to down play your dreams. The Support Workers offer support even after you leave which is amazing.
Life Housing have provided a high level of professional care ... [Tenants] have been able to obtain constant support and understanding from the Life support staff which has helped both mother and child integrate into society.
The help my support worker gave me was outstanding.
The work you do is amazing.
All Life has done is help me.
